The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Santa Cruz is investigating a crash that occurred on Highway 9 in Felton involving four bicyclists. The incident, which took place around 6:21 p.m. at Glengarry Road, resulted in major injuries to the bicyclists.
According to CHP, an 85-year-old woman driving a blue Kia Forte northbound on Highway 9 struck the bicyclists, who were traveling south on the east shoulder of the highway. The Kia veered off the roadway for unknown reasons, hitting the bicyclists before colliding with a tree. The driver of the Kia sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Two of the bicyclists suffered major injuries and were airlifted to the hospital, while the other two were taken by ambulance. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, with drugs and alcohol not believed to be factors.
