Tragedy in San Jose
In the early hours of Saturday, a tragic accident shook San Jose as a man lost his life in a shocking crash. The vehicle he was traveling in, a 2022 red Subaru sedan, lost control at high speed on McKee Road and ended up crashing into the second story of a residence. The vehicle's driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The incident occurred near the intersection of McKee Road and Francis Drive, where witnesses reported to the San Jose Police about a single-vehicle crash just before 2:30 a.m. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the median and all eastbound lanes before veering off the road on the south side of McKee Road. The Subaru went through a fence before violently impacting the residential structure, prompting evacuation of the home as a precaution. Fortunately, no residents were reported injured in the house.
In an interview with KRON4, a resident who shared the home with his father and aunt described how the vehicle crashed directly into the room where his father was sleeping, miraculously emerging unscathed. This tragic event has left the local community in shock, especially as accidents are regrettably frequent in this stretch of McKee Road, with this being the latest in a series of serious incidents in the same area.
The driver, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, now faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, underscoring the serious consequences of driving under the influence. The Santa Clara County Coroner's Office is responsible for officially identifying the deceased victim, while this incident marks the 23rd fatal crash and 23rd traffic-related death in San Jose in 2024.
