Fatal Collision Unfolds in Fontana
In a tragic turn of events on Saturday night in Fontana, two individuals lost their lives, and several others, including police officers, sustained severe injuries during a brief but high-speed police chase. The Fontana Police Department initiated the pursuit shortly before 11 p.m., near the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Cypress Avenue.
The incident began when officers attempted to pull over a Nissan Sentra for code violations. However, the driver of the Nissan refused to comply with their instructions and instead accelerated, attempting to evade the police. A dramatic chase ensued, lasting less than 30 seconds but reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The harrowing pursuit concluded when the Nissan driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with another police cruiser that had joined the chase to provide assistance. Both the Nissan and the police vehicle sustained severe damage in the collision.
First responders, including paramedics, quickly arrived at the scene. Tragically, two occupants of the Nissan were pronounced dead on-site, while two others from the car were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from the Fontana Police Department.
The crash also left two police officers in the cruiser with serious injuries, requiring immediate medical attention. They were swiftly transported to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the incident is now in the hands of the San Bernardino Sheriff Major Accident Investigation Team. As of now, none of the victims involved in the tragic collision have been identified.
