Collision on Highway 216, Tulare County

A tragic accident took place at the intersection of Highway 216 and Beechwood Avenue, involving a high-speed vehicle lacking proper lighting equipment. The incident resulted in a fatality, emphasizing the importance of using seat belts and child safety seats.

On October 31st, at 7 p.m., the Fresno Communication Center (FCC) received a call regarding a crash on State Route 216 at Beechwood Avenue, with medical personnel responding immediately. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers in the Visalia area arrived at the scene to investigate the accident.

The initial investigation revealed that a 30-year-old man was driving a 1999 Ford southbound on SR-216, approaching Beechwood Avenue. Mr. Saechao was driving a 2001 Toyota northbound on SR-216, intending to turn west onto Beechwood Avenue.

According to witness statements, the Ford was traveling at a high speed and did not have its vehicle lights on during the darkness. Due to the Ford's dark color, combined with its speed and lack of proper lighting equipment, Mr. Saechao was unable to see it. The Ford and the Toyota collided at the intersection, causing the Ford to overturn several times before landing back on its wheels.

The driver of the Ford was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. A baby was secured in a child safety seat inside the Ford; however, due to the use of the seat, the baby suffered only minor injuries. Mr. Saechao and the occupants of the Toyota remained uninjured.

It is still unknown if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.

The CHP in the Visalia area would like to remind the public that proper use of seat belts and child safety seats is the most effective way to reduce fatalities in motor vehicle accidents.
