Tragic Interstate 15 Collision

In a devastating incident on January 19, 2024, two people lost their lives, and three others were critically injured and airlifted to hospitals following a fatal multiple vehicle collision on Interstate 15, just north of Baker. The tragic collision took place at approximately 4:11 am. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the crash involved a white Budget rental truck, which may have been carrying a vehicle or trailer, and two other vehicles. Tragically, one of the vehicles caught fire after the collision. First responders swiftly arrived at the scene, where they encountered a total of six individuals involved in the accident. Unfortunately, two of them were pronounced deceased on-site. The rescue teams provided immediate medical aid to the remaining victims and called for the assistance of three medical helicopters to transport the injured parties to hospitals. One victim was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center via Mercy Air #30 helicopter, while the other two were airlifted to Las Vegas University Medical Center aboard Mercy Air #21 and #24 helicopters. All the injured individuals were reported to have sustained major injuries. Fortunately, by 7 am, all northbound lanes of Interstate 15 had been reopened, although traffic congestion had accumulated for several miles as a result of the tragic incident. The California Highway Patrol's Bartow Office will be conducting an investigation into this devastating accident, and further details are expected to be revealed in their preliminary accident report.
