Tragic Accident in Apple Valley

In a tragic incident that occurred on January 14, 2024, at around 6:20 pm, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Highway 18 in Apple Valley, leading to the unfortunate demise of the pedestrian. This incident took place in the eastbound lanes of Highway 18, just east of Kasota Road, near St. Mary’s Medical Center/Providence. Witnesses reported that CPR was being administered to the pedestrian, identified as a Black male adult, at the scene. The injured pedestrian was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The authorities have now classified the incident as an 1144, which signifies a fatal accident investigation. The vehicle involved in the collision was a silver 2020 Toyota Corolla, which sustained significant damage to its windshield and hood area. Fortunately, the male driver of the vehicle cooperated with law enforcement, and neither he nor his female passenger suffered any injuries. In response to the incident, eastbound traffic on Highway 18 was diverted at Kasota Road onto the outer highway, while one lane of westbound traffic was temporarily closed for the investigative process. This tragic accident marks the second fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Highway 18 in Apple Valley in just a matter of days. On January 11th, another pedestrian, identified as Brian D. Johnson, lost his life after being struck by two pickup trucks while attempting to cross Highway 18 near Pawnee Road. The coroner's office has identified the latest victim as Randy A. Scott, aged 62, and a resident of Apple Valley. Further information regarding the collision will be updated as it becomes available, while the identity of the pedestrian was being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
