Tragedy in Pleasanton
Four members of an Indo-American family lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Pleasanton, California, on Wednesday night. According to reports from local ABC7 News, the Pleasanton Police Department indicated that the crash, involving a single vehicle, occurred around 9 p.m. on Foothill Road near Stoneridge Drive.
While authorities are still in the process of notifying family members, emalayalee.com, a publication in Malayalam language, identified the victims as Tharun George, his wife, and their two children. George, originally from Thiruvalla in Kerala, India, worked for a technology company, according to the publication.
Police have stated that they are currently unsure if speed played a role in the accident or if alcohol was a contributing factor. However, they have ruled out the involvement of third parties.
After the crash, the family's electric car caught fire, reigniting several times as investigators cleared the scene, ABC7News reported.
In a statement posted on the web, the Pleasanton Police Department stated, "We are conducting a thorough investigation and have no additional information at this time. We will release further details as they become available. For now, our priority is to protect the identity of the victims as we notify the family and complete our investigation."
Pleasanton is located approximately 40 miles east of San Francisco. The Pleasanton Unified School District confirmed that the children involved in the crash were students in their schools. Patrick Gannon, Communications Director for the district, expressed sadness over the incident, describing it as tragic and grim.
In response to the tragedy, the school district announced that they would provide additional counseling and support resources to students at least until Friday.
Throughout Thursday, people, including loved ones, friends, and even strangers, gathered at the accident site to pay their respects. Hasan Shaikh, who had worked with the father at a technology company in South Bay, shared fond memories of him, describing him as a pleasant and energetic person, ABC7News reported.
Shaikh did not reveal the identity of the family, emphasizing the need to respect the authorities' process. He expressed deep sadness over the loss, highlighting the family's positive attributes and the impact they had on those around them.
