Tragedy in Malibu
Last Thursday night, a tragic car accident in Malibu left one person dead and two others injured in a head-on collision involving a well-known influencer and wellness advocate, Summer Wheaton. According to information provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Wheaton was driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz when, for reasons still under investigation, she crossed the central median and collided head-on with a 2020 Cadillac SUV that was heading west on the Pacific Coast Highway.
The impact was so severe that the driver of the Cadillac died at the scene of the accident. Wheaton, along with a passenger who was in the Cadillac, were rushed to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The severity of the injuries sustained by both survivors is currently unknown.
Summer Wheaton is not only known for her past as a licensed real estate agent but also for having reinvented herself as a wellness advocate and founder of wellness-focused startups. On her social media, particularly on Instagram, where she has more than 100,000 followers, Wheaton promoted healthy eating habits and mindful living choices. However, after being identified as the driver in this fatal accident, her Instagram account was set to private, limiting access to her posts.
In addition to her social media presence, Wheaton managed a personal website where she described herself as the CEO and founder of two innovative companies. One of them specializes in the distribution of vending machines with healthy snack options, aligning with her personal brand of promoting wellness. Curiously, this website was also taken down from public view the Tuesday following the accident, with its web address now indicating that it is a private site accessible only by its owner.
So far, Wheaton has not responded to requests for comments about the incident. The investigation into the accident is still ongoing, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The accident occurred around 10:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of the Pacific Coast Highway, near the Nobu restaurant, which was hosting a party without the necessary permits at the time, according to the local newspaper Malibu Times. The connection between the party and the accident has not yet been clarified, but the incident has generated significant media interest due to the notoriety of the driver involved.
