Tragedy in California
Israeli high-tech entrepreneur Liron Petrushka and his wife Naomi tragically lost their lives in a plane crash in California, as reported by The Guardian. The fatal incident occurred on Saturday night when the aircraft they were traveling in crashed while attempting to land at the Truckee Tahoe airport, located in northern California near the Nevada border.
The flight had departed from Centennial Airport in Denver, Colorado, on the same Saturday around 4:20 pm, according to FlightAware data.
Authorities at the Truckee Tahoe airport reported in a Facebook post that both the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are on site investigating the accident, which occurred at 6:38 pm on Saturday. The plane, a single-engine TBM N960LP, crashed on Union Pacific rail property south of Glenshire Drive, between the railroad track and the Truckee River, resulting in the tragic loss of the couple.
Both the NTSB and the FAA are conducting thorough investigations to determine the exact causes of the accident.
Liron Petrushka and Naomi were well-known Israeli investors and tech entrepreneurs who had been living in California for the past few years. According to Fox News, Mr. Petrushka founded a successful tech company with his wife, which was later sold for the impressive sum of $242 million. In recent years, the couple had been involved in various tech initiatives and resided in California. Their investments included Check, which was sold to the U.S. financial giant Intuit in 2014 for approximately $360 million, as well as the insurance startup Next Insurance.
"We are devastated by the news of the tragic death of Liron and Naomi Petrushka. Our hearts are with the Petrushka family and their children David, Scott, and Jordan," said UpWest, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm that Liron Petrushka joined in 2017.
In addition to his successful career in business, Liron Petrushka also had a prominent career as a professional soccer player in Israel. The president of Petrushka's former soccer team, Einav Hazenvald, stated: "The club bows its head for the death of Liron Petrushka and his wife. Liron grew up in the club from the age of 10 and went through all the teams, including the adult team. He played with me in the youth team, where we won the national championship, as well as in the adult team."
Liron and Naomi Petrushka leave behind an indelible legacy and are fondly remembered by friends, family, and colleagues. They are survived by four children, who now face the difficult task of moving forward after this tragic loss.
