Crash on Highway 138

In a harrowing incident on the early morning of Saturday, January 27, 2024, a vehicle rolled over and burst into flames on eastbound Highway 138, just near Little Horsethief Canyon Rd, roughly a mile away from Summit Valley Rd. The accident, which occurred around 1:20 am, sent shockwaves through the community. Despite the alarming circumstances, the driver, who was presumably in a pickup truck, managed to escape the vehicle moments before it became engulfed in flames. The car came to a rest approximately 100 feet away from the road. Quick response from the San Bernardino County Fire Department prevented further disaster, as they swiftly extinguished the fire and secured the area. While the cleanup was underway, at approximately 2:40 am, another startling incident unfolded on the same stretch of highway. A driver veered off the road, colliding with the back of a firetruck that was on-site, assisting with the earlier rollover crash. Shockingly, the driver fled the scene, leaving the authorities bewildered. Fortunately, no firefighters sustained injuries during this unexpected turn of events. The California Highway Patrol's Victorville Office is set to investigate both incidents. As of now, information remains limited, pending the release of the CHP's preliminary accident report. In a surprising twist, the registered owner of the vehicle involved in the second crash was reported as stolen the previous night, adding a layer of mystery to an already perplexing sequence of events.
