Morning Crash on 5 Freeway
A severe accident unfolded on Wednesday morning on the 5 Freeway near Smoke Bear Road, just south of Gorman, California. The incident involved two semitrucks, resulting in a person's leg being severed and a lengthy closure of all southbound lanes, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of the collision shortly before 7 a.m. The impact of the crash was so significant that a rescue helicopter had to be dispatched to the scene. The Los Angeles County Fire Department played a critical role in rescuing the individual who had lost their leg due to the crash. Firefighters had to extricate the victim from the wreckage, and they were then transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported among those involved.
The collision occurred when one of the semitrucks rear-ended the other near the right shoulder of the freeway, as captured by video footage from AIR7 HD. The force of the impact was powerful enough to crumple the trailer of the first vehicle, causing its cargo to spill onto the ground. The cab of the second semitruck was severely damaged and had to be towed away from the scene.
As a result of the crash and the subsequent investigation by the CHP, southbound traffic on the 5 Freeway experienced significant delays. However, by Wednesday evening, all lanes were reopened to motorists.
At this time, the cause of the accident remains unknown, and authorities are continuing their efforts to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
