The person fled in a vehicle when confronted by authorities, stopping at times to allegedly fire at the deputies. "Deputies returned fire, and ultimately, the suspect crashed the vehicle he was driving," the sheriff's office said in a statement. Four deputies were injured, one was shot in the leg, two suffered hand injuries, and one who sustained a head injury was hospitalized and is in critical but stable condition. The person deputies were pursuing was pronounced dead at the scene.
