In a dramatic incident in the San Gabriel Mountains near Glendora, a car plunged approximately 200 feet down a hillside early Monday morning.
The incident was reported around 1 a.m. on Glendora Mountain Road near mile marker 6.2. Two people were inside the vehicle, which veered off the road and fell into dense vegetation, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Cabrera.
One of the occupants managed to climb back up the hill, seek help, and alert that their friend was still trapped inside the vehicle. "Our firefighters were lowered down on a rope system and were able to bring all their tools for extrication and also for patient care," Cabrera said.
Rescuers were able to reach the driver, who was then hoisted up by a helicopter and taken to a hospital. The condition of the unidentified driver was unknown. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
