Accident on Route 99, Yuba City, California

A 63-year-old man from Yuba City died on Thursday on State Route 99 after being hit by another man from Yuba City who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At approximately 12:19 a.m. on Thursday, a red Honda Accord driven by 27-year-old Jonathan Rodrigo Merin Quiorz, a Yuba City resident, was traveling at an unknown speed southbound on State Route 99, south of Sacramento Avenue, in the wrong direction lanes of traffic, as reported by a witness, according to information provided by the California Highway Patrol.

According to an accident report, the witness observed Quiorz's vehicle colliding head-on with a blue Honda Pilot traveling northbound and driven by 63-year-old Gurdial Singh, a Yuba City resident. The Sutter County Sheriff's Office confirmed the deceased man's name to the Appeal.

As a result of the collision, Singh suffered fatal injuries, reported the California Highway Patrol. Quiorz was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with severe facial trauma, as stated in the report.

A passenger in Quiorz's Accord, 25-year-old Macario Per, was taken to Adventist Health/Rideout Hospital in Marysville with moderate injuries, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.

According to authorities, Quiorz "showed signs of alcohol intoxication and was arrested for driving under the influence with the additional charge of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated."

The California Highway Patrol informed that the accident is still under investigation and that officials are "consulting with the Sutter County District Attorney's Office."
