Accident in Mira Mesa, California
A traffic accident at a bus stop in Mira Mesa left an 18-year-old pedestrian seriously injured on Wednesday, according to authorities.
The accident occurred just before noon at 8350 Mira Mesa Boulevard, near Camino Ruiz, according to the San Diego Police Department.
A 27-year-old man was turning south from Camino Ruiz to the east on Mira Mesa Blvd in a Fiat Spider when the rear of his car lost traction and began to skid, which happens when the rear of a car starts moving from side to side, according to the San Diego police.
The driver collided with a young woman who was walking at that time, and then hit the MTS bus stop.
Paramedics took the victim to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to be treated for serious injuries to her right leg, reported the San Diego police.
SkyRanger 7 showed from the air a damaged white Fiat Spider that ended up on the middle of the sidewalk on the east side of Mira Mesa Boulevard, near a clearly damaged bus stop in front of Pho Ca Dao restaurant.
At least six police cars could be seen gathered at the corner of Camino Ruiz and Mira Mesa Boulevard, blocking the eastbound lanes of the boulevard.
The accident forced the closure of the eastbound traffic lanes at the crash site, according to Scott Lockwood, SDPD public affairs officer.
The manager of Pho Ca Dao, Javi Dimla, said he heard a loud crash and immediately knew something was wrong.
"I thought it had crashed into the wall, like the building. We just saw debris flying, a lot of smoke," Dimla said about the car that crashed into the bus stop.
"The young woman had her leg twisted to the side, it was quite horrifying. She was screaming in pain, it was quite serious. We all knew we had to make sure she was being taken care of until emergency services arrived," Dimla said.
