San Leandro:
Wednesday morning was marked by significant traffic delays in San Leandro due to two separate big-rig incidents. The first occurred around 2:15 a.m. when a truck crashed into the center divider and caught fire on the northbound SR-238 connector ramp to northbound I-880. Despite the severity of the situation, the driver was unharmed. The connector ramp was closed, and traffic was diverted onto southbound I-880. The Alameda County Fire Department shared footage from the scene, noting that the truck was hauling food and produce.
The second incident happened just before 5 a.m. on westbound Highway 24, just past the Caldecott Tunnel, where a big-rig overturned and blocked all lanes. The driver may have sustained injuries, though no specific information was provided. Traffic was diverted onto northbound Highway 13. By 9:20 a.m., the scene was cleared, and by 9:50 a.m., all lanes on Highway 24 were reopened, allowing traffic to resume.
Both incidents caused severe traffic jams throughout the morning, affecting hundreds of drivers in the San Leandro and Oakland areas.
