Fatal Incident in San Jose

A man walking on Highway 101 in San Jose was fatally struck by a driver early Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash happened around 3:40 a.m. on Highway 101 south of Old Oakland Road, according to a CHP news release. Two women from San Jose were in the car, which was traveling north when it collided with the pedestrian. The weather was described as "cool and wet," after scattered showers moved over the Bay Area on Wednesday. The man was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead there. His name was not immediately released pending confirmation of his identity and notification of his next of kin. The driver sustained moderate injuries, which were not specified in the press release. The right side of the car’s windshield shattered from the crash. Both women were wearing their seatbelts when the crash occurred. Neither of the women were arrested, authorities said.
