Fatal Accident in San Mateo:
In San Mateo, an 83-year-old man died after his car went over a concrete barrier at the edge of a freeway ramp, landing on its side in a dirt lot owned by Caltrans, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The accident occurred between late Sunday and early Monday, although officers could not specify the exact time. The San Francisco resident was driving a Toyota Corolla on the elevated transition road between eastbound Highway 92 and northbound Highway 101 at an unknown speed when the car went off the west side of the road. According to authorities, the driver was partially ejected from the vehicle as it came to rest on its left side.
The incident was reported Monday morning by PG&E employees, who were conducting maintenance on electrical boxes when they found the deceased man. CHP officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9 a.m. The driver was pronounced dead at 9:11 a.m. The San Mateo County Coroner determined that the man had died late Sunday night or early Monday, police said.
The man's identity will be released once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified. The investigation is ongoing, officials said. They do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
