Fatal Accident in Rancho Murieta:
In Rancho Murieta, California, a driver who was injured in a crash on Monday night following a high-speed police chase died at the hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Wednesday.
The chase began when a CHP officer saw a car speeding in Amador County and attempted to pull it over. "The driver failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued," officials said.
The car continued to flee at high speed on northbound Highway 49 and entered westbound Highway 16, according to CHP. The driver entered Sacramento County, continued on westbound Highway 16, and crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Murieta Parkway.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 8:15 p.m. to the crash site near the intersection of Jackson Road, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
Two people were found inside the vehicle pursued by police, which CHP later confirmed was stolen. The driver, a man, and a female passenger were taken to a nearby hospital. Both had major injuries, and the man later died, CHP said.
In the other vehicle, there were three adults who suffered minor to moderate injuries, according to CHP.
Officials have yet to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in causing the crash.
