118 Freeway Crash
In a tragic incident that brought the westbound lanes of the 118 Freeway to a standstill, a fatal crash occurred involving two trucks and an SUV, leading to the loss of at least one life. The incident took place on a Monday morning near Topanga Canyon Boulevard in the Chatsworth area, as confirmed by authorities to KTLA.
The collision, which involved three vehicles, was reported just before 9 a.m., prompting a swift response from the California Highway Patrol (CHP). While the exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, initial findings suggest that a Penske box truck rear-ended a lumber truck, causing the lumber to strike the Penske truck. Sadly, the male driver of the Penske truck was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Information regarding whether there was a passenger in the Penske box truck or any injuries to the other drivers involved in the crash remains undisclosed. Citizen App footage revealed extensive damage to the Penske truck, with its front end nearly sheared off and the windshield shattered. Additionally, a blue-colored SUV appeared to have collided with the rear of the Penske truck during the incident.
The CHP issued a SigAlert that lasted for nearly three hours to facilitate the investigation and allow crews to clear the accident scene. Although the cause of the crash is still being investigated, CHP clarified that the driver of the Penske truck was not impaled during the collision. Unfortunately, no further details have been provided at this time.
