Collision on I-80

A fatal accident closed multiple lanes of westbound Interstate 80, west of Penryn Road, on Wednesday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that the driver of a 2003 Toyota Tundra stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate west of King Road, exited their vehicle for unknown reasons, and ran into the westbound traffic lanes. The individual was immediately struck by a Kenworth truck driven by a Penryn man. The person suffered fatal injuries. CHP reported that it is unknown whether the person was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and confirmed that the truck driver was not under the influence of substances at the time of the incident. CHP confirmed that traffic was heavily affected, and motorists were advised to seek alternate routes due to the delays caused by the closure. Caltrans reported that all westbound lanes were reopened by 4:27 p.m. The incident remains under investigation by CHP and the Placer County District Attorney's Office. Anyone with information about the collision is urged to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
