Amtrak Tragedy Strikes Carlsbad

A tragic incident unfolded on Monday when a man lost his life after being struck by an Amtrak train in Carlsbad. This unfortunate incident marks the fourth fatality resulting from train crashes in the San Diego area within the past week. The collision occurred around 12:30 p.m. near the Carlsbad Village Station, as revealed by Sgt. Jason King from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Carlsbad police responded promptly to the scene and found the victim suffering from severe injuries. Despite the efforts of first responders to provide aid, the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Pacific Surfliner, which runs between Los Angeles (LAX) and San Diego (SAN), temporarily suspended services due to the incident but resumed operations at 3:45 p.m. Nevertheless, passengers were advised to expect residual delays as a result. Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased man pending examination by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office and notification of his family. This tragic event follows a series of train-related fatalities in the San Diego region. Over the weekend, a man was fatally struck by a southbound BNSF freight train in Encinitas, while on Thursday, two separate incidents resulted in the deaths of two men in Sorrento Valley and near the Mission Hills neighborhood. For those who may possess information related to Monday's collision, the Sheriff's Department has established a non-emergency line at 858-565-5200 for inquiries.
