Accident in Woodland

The Yolo County prosecutor has filed charges against Julio Navarro-Vidrio, a 34-year-old resident of Woodland, in connection with a tragic incident that resulted in the death of Ailahni Sanchez Martinez, a toddler just 2 years old. The charges filed include one count of involuntary manslaughter, one for endangering a child, and an enhancement alleging that the offense caused great bodily injury and that the victim was particularly vulnerable due to her young age. The fateful event occurred on March 16 at the 76 gas station in Woodland, located at 300 West St. Investigations revealed that Navarro-Vidrio had left his truck running while parking it at a gas pump, with a 3-year-old child in the back seat. However, upon entering the station's store, the 3-year-old child unbuckled and moved to the driver's seat, thus triggering a sequence of tragic events. The truck began to move forward involuntarily and ended up colliding with little Martinez, who was near a taco stand on the edge of the parking lot. Despite the efforts of family members to rush her to the hospital, unfortunately, Ailahni died shortly afterward due to the severity of her injuries. Investigators determined that the 3-year-old child had become involved in the incident accidentally, without understanding the consequences of his actions. At this time, Navarro-Vidrio is out on bail but is scheduled to appear in court on May 10 at 1:30 p.m. in Department 1 of the Yolo County Superior Court. This tragic event has shocked the Woodland community and has sparked a debate about the responsibility and safety of children in similar situations.
