Accident in San Martin
In an incident on Monday afternoon in Santa Clara County near the San Martin station, a vehicle and a Caltrain train collided. The accident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m., involved a vehicle that was on the tracks for unknown reasons when the Caltrain train was traveling southbound. The car, a Lexus sedan, suffered severe damage, and its sole occupant was extricated for medical attention, although their current condition is unknown.
Fortunately, aboard the Caltrain train were approximately 25 passengers, none of whom were injured. The Cal Fire SCU Fire Department released photos of the accident, showing the magnitude of the impact on the car. Emergency teams managed to remove the vehicle from the train tracks to allow for the continuation of rail service.
At 7:30 p.m., Caltrain teams were still working to move the train to Gilroy and restore normal service. Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident to determine the causes and responsibilities.
