Accident in Lodi
An individual lost their life on Sunday afternoon when their vehicle was struck by a train at the southern end of Lodi. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a white Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Armstrong Road around 6 p.m. when they apparently attempted to drive over the barriers at the intersection with Pearson Road and was struck by the southbound train. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its side, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The train, belonging to Union Pacific Railroad, had no crew members injured in the collision. The San Joaquin County Coroner's Office identified the driver as Puthy Sok, 49 years old, and a resident of Stockton. This incident marks the third in the Lodi area in five weeks, and the second resulting in a fatality.
On April 23, around 12:20 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to a collision between an SUV and a train on Kettleman Road, just west of DeVries Road. According to the California Highway Patrol at the time, the SUV driver attempted to cross the train tracks while the barriers were descending.
The SUV, towing a camper, was struck by the train and then collided with a nearby electrical box. The Woodbridge Fire District reported that one occupant was airlifted from the scene, and another was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Additionally, a dog was injured in the collision, according to the district.
On April 27, around 7:33 p.m., the Lodi Police Department received a call from Union Pacific Railroad reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by one of their southbound trains near Turner Road. Officers attempted life-saving maneuvers for the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Union Pacific reported that the incident occurred near Sacramento Street and Turner Road, not near a train crossing.
