Accident in La Habra:
In La Habra, a police officer was hospitalized Thursday morning following a motorcycle accident, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Lambert Road and Walnut Street.
Investigators said the officer, who was riding his motorcycle, was traveling east on Lambert Road when a minivan attempted to turn left onto Walnut Street. The officer collided with the passenger side of the vehicle.
The impact of the crash ejected the officer onto the street and tore off the front wheel of the motorcycle. The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to UCI Medical Center. The police reported that the officer is "in critical but stable condition."
The police thanked the public for the prayers and positive messages received and also expressed gratitude to partner agencies that assisted during this critical incident. Video from AIR7 showed the wreckage of the motorcycle in the middle of the intersection, with debris scattered nearby. The minivan, with its passenger-side door open, was stopped in a crosswalk.
John Magor, who lives on Walnut Street near the intersection, mentioned that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Magor expressed frustration over the lack of a green arrow signal at this busy intersection, which he believes has led to multiple collisions in the past.
Magor hopes that this latest accident will lead to changes in traffic signals to prevent future incidents. The collision is under investigation by the CHP.
