Truck Crash in Los Angeles Causes Chaos on the 5 Freeway;
The southbound 5 Freeway was fully shut down for hours in the Elysian Park area of Los Angeles after a truck crashed, scattering boxes of French fries across all lanes. The crash occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Thursday near Stadium Way, just after the intersection with the 2 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic log.
It is still unclear what caused the crash, but the impact was severe enough to detach the trailer from the truck, leaving countless boxes of French fries strewn across the freeway. Cleanup crews also had to deal with a diesel spill, which further delayed reopening the road.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the accident. However, the incident caused a massive traffic jam, affecting drivers on their morning commute and creating long backups for miles. Even the northbound lanes and nearby freeways experienced delays due to the chaos.
Authorities initially hoped to reopen the freeway by 9 a.m., but the complexity of the cleanup extended the closure. By 11 a.m., at least two lanes had been reopened, allowing traffic to slowly begin flowing again as cleanup efforts continued in the affected area.
