Tragedy in Manzanita
In the early hours of Friday morning, a tragic accident was reported in the community of Manzanita, located just outside Boulevard in the east county. The incident involved three vehicles and resulted in the death of a female driver, while other occupants sustained serious injuries.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Old Highway 80 and Tierra Del Sol Road, at approximately 1 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatality was a woman driving a blue car. In a tragic turn of events, the woman was ejected from her vehicle during a head-on collision with a pickup truck and a small SUV. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rescue teams had to perform complex maneuvers to extricate the driver and a passenger from the pickup truck, who were subsequently airlifted to local hospitals. Although they were promptly attended to, the current status of these two individuals has not been disclosed. Additionally, the driver of the SUV also sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital, although the severity of their injuries has not been specified.
As an immediate response to the accident, CHP decided to close a segment of Old Highway 80 to facilitate the crash investigation. This closure affected traffic flow in the area, necessitating coordination among various agencies to manage traffic and ensure the scene's safety.
Thus far, authorities have not determined the exact cause of the collision. Investigations are ongoing to clarify the factors that contributed to this fatal incident and determine whether there were traffic violations that may have precipitated the tragic outcome. This accident underscores the importance of caution and respect for traffic laws to prevent future tragedies on our roads.
