Collision in Stockton
Late Sunday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office K9 deputy along Waterloo Road near Piccoli Road, just outside Stockton city limits. The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. The deputy was traveling eastbound at an unspecified speed when the collision happened. Despite efforts to administer first aid, the pedestrian, who is believed to be homeless and was wearing dark clothing, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
During the investigation, an unrelated vehicle breached a barricade set up by authorities around 1:30 a.m. The driver was subsequently arrested by the California Highway Patrol. The circumstances of this second incident, including whether it was intentional, remain unclear. The age and gender of the pedestrian have not been disclosed.
The deputy involved was reportedly on duty and en route for a break at the time of the collision. Both the first collision and the breach of the barricade are under investigation by the sheriff's office, CHP, and the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office. Standard protocols for investigating critical incidents involving law enforcement are being followed.
