Fatal Ford Ranger Wreck
A tragic incident unfolded on Friday afternoon as a resident of Lucerne lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 20.
The identity of the 56-year-old man remains undisclosed as of Friday, as the California Highway Patrol's Clear Lake Area office refrains from publicizing his name until his family has been informed.
The crash took place around 1:23 p.m. near Upper Lake, as reported by the CHP.
According to the CHP, the man was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger heading eastbound on Highway 20, just past Upper Lake Lucerne Road. The exact speed of the pickup truck at the time of the accident remains unknown. The vehicle veered off the southern edge of the roadway, swerved left, traversed all lanes of traffic, and then careened off the northern side of the road, overturning as it descended the embankment. It eventually landed on its roof in a water-filled ditch.
Shockingly, the driver was not wearing a seat belt, as revealed by the report.
Despite the efforts of first responders to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries. He was rushed to Sutter Lakeside Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead at 2:41 p.m.
The CHP stated that it remains uncertain whether drugs or alcohol played a role in causing the crash.
Investigations into the collision are ongoing under the supervision of CHP Officer J. Lindsey.
