Fatal Accident in Bakersfield, Kern County
A tragic accident occurred in Bakersfield last Saturday, resulting in the death of a 66-year-old man. The California Highway Patrol reported on Monday that the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, passed away just before noon on Saturday due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident on the night of November 2nd.
The incident took place when the man, who was in a wheelchair, was crossing Kern Canyon Road heading north, just west of Shalane Avenue. Unfortunately, he was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a 2015 Nissan driven by 19-year-old Bakersfield resident Gustavo Gabriel López.
The impact was so severe that the pedestrian was thrown out of his wheelchair. He suffered serious injuries and was immediately transported to Kern Medical for treatment. On the other hand, López, the driver of the vehicle, was unharmed.
The California Highway Patrol has reported that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be contributing factors in the accident. However, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
