Horror in Huntington Beach: Drunk Conductor Plows into Crowd, Faces Attempted Murder Charges

A suspect driving under the influence of alcohol has been charged with six counts of attempted murder after prosecutors claimed he intentionally drove his truck onto a sidewalk in Huntington Beach last week, hitting pedestrians and crashing the vehicle into a department store.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, Tuan Miller, a 54-year-old man from Anaheim, has been charged with one count of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury, vandalism, and evading a police officer, according to a press release.

If convicted of all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, according to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on October 13th at the Bella Terra Mall on Edinger Avenue.

Miller is accused of deliberately striking two women outside a Kohl's store.

According to prosecutors, the driver then accelerated "towards three other people. He struck one of the individuals, who became trapped in the front of Miller's car as it plowed through the store's glass doors."

Three people were injured in the crash and were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, said the police. One of the victims was performing with a group of singers in front of Kohl's when the truck crashed into them.

Police officers witnessed the driver flee the scene in a red truck, sparking a pursuit, authorities said. The pursuit ended a short distance from the accident site after officers performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle.

The damaged truck apparently toppled a light post and came to a stop on the sidewalk.

"A truck went up on the sidewalk, stopped, and some of the onlookers watching us perform saw the truck and said, 'hey, get out of here!'" said Chris Ring, who was singing with the group.

"The truck accelerated and came right at us and struck one of our singers, and took our singer straight through the front doors and inside the store," Ring told Eyewitness News.

The crash caused $425,000 in damages to the store, said the district attorney's office.
