Wild Chase in North Hollywood:
On Monday night in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, a suspect who stole a truck and a "Matt's Coffee" trailer led authorities on a dangerous chase that ended in a crash. The pursuit began after the white truck with the coffee trailer was reported stolen in Ventura County.
The owner of Matt's Coffee informed ABC7 that an employee was inside the coffee trailer at the time of the theft. The employee later jumped out of the trailer, sustaining some road rash injuries, but is expected to be okay.
The vehicle was later spotted in the Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Division. At one point, the driver lost control of the vehicle while making a sharp right turn onto Tujunga Avenue from Chandler Boulevard. Video footage shows the truck taking the sharp turn, causing the towed trailer to roll over onto its side and skid onto the sidewalk.
The truck crashed into a local dance studio that serves over 100 children a week. The damage to the studio is currently being assessed. "I thank God that there were no children here because we have children from the age of 3 and up," said Eartha Robinson, founder of The Heart Dance Studio.
Officers stated that the suspect ran away after the collision but was later arrested after hiding in a porta-potty. The suspect, identified as Liam Yanez, 27, faces multiple charges including carjacking, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held on a $130,000 bail.
