Authorities are seeking the public's help to locate a suspected driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident on State Route 163 last month.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a man was found dead near downtown San Diego on Wednesday, February 28th. He was located within the median of the highway.
Based on preliminary investigation, the CHP determined that the pedestrian was walking within the southbound traffic lanes of State Route 163, north of Interstate 5.
CHP believes that the man may have been struck by an individual driving a black, compact, newer model BMW coupe, possibly a 2 series or 230i model. The driver allegedly fled the scene southbound on State Route 163 towards downtown.
Investigators state that the vehicle may have damage to the front, left side mirror, and left front headlights.
CHP is now asking for the public's assistance in providing any information related to this case. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a vehicle matching this description is encouraged to call the Special Investigations Unit of the San Diego Area CHP at (858) 293-6000.
