Watsonville Accident:
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday morning just outside of Watsonville, in Santa Cruz County. The incident took place around 7:28 a.m. on Green Valley Road, when a 28-year-old man from Freedom was driving a 2020 Kia Forte northbound at an unknown speed.
At the same time, a 37-year-old woman from Watsonville was driving a school bus southbound on the same road. For reasons still unknown, the Kia driver veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the bus.
The crash resulted in minor injuries to the Kia driver and a 13-year-old student on the bus. A total of 43 students were aboard the school bus at the time of the collision. Burn marks visible on the front of the bus indicate the severity of the impact.
As a result of the accident, Green Valley Road, north of Casserly Road, was closed for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation. By 10:44 a.m., the road had been reopened to traffic.
No arrests have been made in connection with the crash, and the CHP has stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing.
