Violent Collision in Chinatown:
Up to six people were injured in a multi-car crash that occurred while police were tracking a possibly armed suspect near Chinatown on Saturday afternoon. The incident began around 4:50 p.m., near Soto Street and Michigan Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers were called to the area after receiving reports about an armed man. Upon arrival, they found the alleged suspect, along with two others, inside a gray BMW. At some point, the suspect crashed into another vehicle near the 1200 block of Spring Street, causing the other car to slam into a wall.
SkyCal captured aerial footage as firefighters used hydraulic tools to free two people trapped inside the car after the violent collision. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported five people to the hospital. According to a statement from the firefighters, all the injured are in fair to moderate condition. Among the injured are four males, ranging in age from 8 to 17 years old, and a 40-year-old woman.
Although officers have not yet confirmed how many people were arrested, they could be seen pointing their guns at the three occupants of the BMW while handcuffing them at the scene. Despite initial reports that the incident began as a pursuit, LAPD later clarified that they were in “tracking mode” when the crash occurred.
