Ventura County Mudslide

Recent rainstorms in Ventura County triggered a massive mudslide that has closed a section of State Route 150 north of Santa Paula. The closure, which is expected to last several months, is due to more than 150 feet of the road being covered by mud and debris. Caltrans reported that the hillside along State Route 150, also known as Ojai Road, began sliding in early February during heavy storms. The closure affects approximately 3,200 daily commuters, with through traffic blocked between Stonegate Road in Santa Paula and Mupu Road at Steckel Park. A suggested detour adds nearly 40 miles to the journey, directing drivers through Ventura and Ojai using State Route 126, U.S. Highway 101, and State Route 33. Additionally, one lane of the road, about two miles north of the mudslide, is closed for repairs due to erosion from the same storms. Caltrans aims to reopen one lane of this section of State Route 150 by the end of May. To address the emergency project, Caltrans and several Ventura County supervisors are hosting a community meeting on Monday, March 4, at 5 p.m. For more information on the meeting, email District1@Ventura.org.
