Two teenagers tragically lost their lives in a devastating collision involving two vehicles in Riverside, California, early on Saturday morning, according to police reports.
Responding to a distress call, Riverside Police Department officers arrived at the scene on Wood Road near Van Buren Boulevard shortly before 5:40 a.m. Upon their arrival, they encountered a horrific scene where one of the vehicles involved had erupted into flames.
Firefighting teams from the Riverside Fire Department were promptly dispatched to the crash site, where they managed to extinguish the vehicle fire. A grim discovery was made as they found that two teenagers from the three occupants in the vehicle had died in the incident.
Investigations revealed that the accident occurred when a gray Lexus, speeding northbound on Wood Road, failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with Van Buren Boulevard. At the same moment, a blue Scion was crossing the intersection westbound on Van Buren Boulevard under a green light.
The collision led the Lexus to veer off its path, striking a cement light pole, a wooden electrical pole, and a tree before it ultimately caught fire, as detailed by the police.
The crash claimed the lives of a 17-year-old male driver and an 18-year-old female passenger at the scene. Another 17-year-old male passenger sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to a hospital for urgent care.
The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed as of yet.
The driver and the sole passenger of the Scion miraculously escaped the accident without injuries and stayed at the scene to assist with the police investigation.
