Tragic Crash on Highway 101
California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a tragic crash that occurred on Saturday morning in Salinas on Highway 101, resulting in one death and two injuries. The crash involved a 1995 Toyota Camry with three occupants heading southbound around 4:54 a.m. CHP reported that for reasons yet to be determined, the Camry failed to negotiate a curve, lost control, and rolled over, eventually colliding with the Laurel Drive exit sign.
The driver, a 28-year-old male from Salinas, was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at Natividad Medical Center. The two passengers, identified as a 29-year-old male and a 24-year-old male, both from Salinas, suffered major injuries. They were also not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle.
CHP has indicated that alcohol and/or drugs are suspected to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
