Accident near Martinez, Contra Costa County
In a devastating incident early Sunday morning near Martinez, a tragic accident claimed the life of one child while another is fighting for survival. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a distress call at 12:06 a.m. regarding a solo crash on westbound Highway 4, close to Morello Avenue. The accident involved a grey Honda CR-V, occupied by an adult driver and two children, which left the road and collided with a tree. The driver suffered moderate injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital. Tragically, an 11-year-old passenger sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and was also rushed to the hospital. Regrettably, the 5-year-old passenger lost their life at the accident scene. Upon investigation, it was determined that the 5-year-old was not properly restrained in a child seat. Subsequently, law enforcement officers visited the hospital and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and manslaughter.
