Tragic accident in Mechanicsville leaves one dead as police search for witnesses
In the afternoon of Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 1:44 pm, patrol officers from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a traffic accident on Three Notch Road, near the intersection with Mt. Zion Church Road in Mechanicsville. Upon arrival, officers found several vehicles involved in a serious accident, with two of them overturned. The vehicles involved were a 2020 white Chevrolet Corvette, a 2008 silver Toyota Camry, and a 2000 silver Toyota 4Runner.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit of the St. Mary's County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Preliminary investigation determined that the 2020 Corvette, driven by Michael Anthony Carlucci, 48 years old and a resident of Waldorf, was traveling south on Three Notch Road, near Laurel Grove Road, when it collided with the left rear side of the 2000 Toyota 4Runner, driven by Jeamine Eugene Barnes, 50 years old and a resident of Hollywood, and then collided with the Toyota Camry, driven by Jaleisa Wilcox, 33 years old and a resident of Lusby, causing all three vehicles to crash into an earth embankment. Both the Corvette and the Camry overturned after the impact with the embankment, and the 4Runner crossed over into the northbound lanes.
Carlucci was transported to Capitol Regional Medical Center due to his injuries and the seriousness of the accident. Wilcox was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
At this time, speed is believed to have been a factor that contributed to the accident.
The St. Mary's County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a dark-colored recent model Ford Mustang, possibly dark gray or black with stripes, that may have been in the area prior to the accident.
