Tragic Accident in Kern County:
A Texas man died in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 33 in northwestern Kern County on Tuesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the victim, a 52-year-old man from Dallas whose name has not been released, was driving a Honda Accord northbound on the highway south of Twisselman Road just after 2 p.m. "at a high rate of speed" when he made an unsafe turning maneuver. This caused the Honda to leave the road and overturn, coming to rest in a dirt field. Although the driver was wearing a seatbelt, he was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.
A passenger, David Leon, 60, from San Joaquin, escaped with minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident, the CHP said.
