Tragedy on Route 74

A Lake Elsinore motorcyclist lost his life last week when a driver crossed in front of him on State Route 74, as identified by the coroner over the weekend as Jason Frost, 44. According to a GoFundMe post created for Frost's family, he was a Marine veteran returning home from his job at UPS when the accident occurred. At approximately 9:17 p.m. on May 2, Frost was traveling westbound on Route 74 on a Honda CBF near Betty Road in unincorporated Perris. According to the California Highway Patrol report, he was traveling at an undetermined speed and did not have a turn signal or a stop sign. A 52-year-old woman from Hesperia driving a Toyota Highlander was on Betty Road near Route 74. She had a stop sign at the T-intersection and obeyed it, but apparently did not see the motorcyclist and crossed in front of him on the highway, reported the California Highway Patrol. Frost was unable to stop his motorcycle in time and collided with the SUV. He was ejected and died at the scene of the accident. According to the California Highway Patrol, he was wearing a helmet. The woman and her 53-year-old male passenger were not injured, reported the California Highway Patrol. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as factors in the accident, and there were no arrests, but charges "may be pending" as the investigation progresses, said California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig. "Jason was a son, brother, uncle, friend, coworker, and beloved proud Marine veteran who touched many lives," according to the GoFundMe post. "His tragic passing is not only premature but unexpected. "Several friends and family have asked how they can help, so we started this GoFundMe to assist with any unexpected expenses not covered. The balance of the funds will be donated to a charity supporting veterans on behalf of Jason," the post continued. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the California Highway Patrol, Temecula area office at 951-466-4300.
