Tragedy on I-5

In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, a man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 near East Village. According to information provided by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred around 5 a.m. on the southbound side of I-5, north of Imperial Avenue. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was walking on the freeway under circumstances still unknown when he was hit by a silver Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 33-year-old man. Following the impact, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the authorities present. While initially it was not considered that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a toxicology report has been requested from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office to determine if the victim was under the influence of any substance at the time of the crash. The vehicle's driver remained at the accident scene and cooperated with authorities in the investigation. As part of standard procedure in such cases, three lanes of Interstate 5 were temporarily closed while the investigation was conducted. This tragic event has shocked the local community and serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic rules. Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances that led to this fatal accident.
