Tragedy in Yonkers: Fatal Car Accident Leaves One Dead and a House Destroyed Yonkers Police are investigating a tragic car accident that left one person dead before crashing into a residence. According to authorities, it happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday at 693 North Broadway in Yonkers. According to the police, the driver of a white Honda was traveling northbound on North Broadway when they lost control of the vehicle, crossed the double yellow line, and crashed into a house. "Everything in the windows came crashing down on my sister," said the homeowner, who asked Eyewitness News not to reveal her identity. "She came out from under the windows and everything. I'm still in shock," she said. The sister suffered cuts and bruises and remains hospitalized in a Westchester County hospital. Before crashing into the residence, the vehicle struck a 70-year-old woman walking on the sidewalk. The brutal impact threw the victim, identified as Chris Kenney O'Rouke, through a front yard and onto a nearby street. She was pronounced dead. "I saw her shoes right in front of my house, so the impact was very strong," recalled Alex Baez, who called 911. "When I ran over to the neighbor to see if they were okay, I saw the lifeless body there." The terrifying incident left many who knew O'Rouke in a state of shock. "I knew her quite well," said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. "She was very involved in the community, with the Yonkers Historical Society. She will be missed and, as I said, my condolences go out to that family." For her brother, Dave Kenney, this is something that can't even be comprehended at this moment. "She was like a second mother," he said. "She took care of everyone. She cared about everyone. And she loved Yonkers." The police have initiated both a criminal and accident investigation. Authorities have not filed charges against the 54-year-old driver from White Plains, but first responders described her mental state as "altered." A toxicology test will determine if there was any involvement of drugs or alcohol. Originally posted at Liga Legal®
