A man identified as Dilpreet Singh Grewal lost his life in a tragic multiple-vehicle collision in East Vancouver. The accident took place at the intersection of Main and East 12th Avenue early last Monday when Grewal's vehicle was struck by a red Cadillac. While seven people were transported to the hospital, Grewal tragically passed away at the scene of the crash. Grewal, a 26-year-old, was the sole breadwinner for his family, and his untimely demise has left his parents and siblings devastated. Originally from India, Grewal moved to Canada in 2015 to study at Alexander College in Burnaby, where he met his close friend Jashan Brar. After graduating, he worked in construction and, due to the pandemic, decided to become an Uber driver for its flexibility and higher income. The young man was a tireless worker and a role model for all those who knew him. He supported his retired parents and funded the education of his two younger siblings, aged 18 and 20. His parents are currently awaiting visas for the younger siblings and plan to come to Vancouver as soon as possible to repatriate their son's remains to India. To assist with funeral expenses, Grewal's sister, Harpreet Kaur Sandhu, has created a GoFundMe campaign that has already raised over $52,000. However, the family still requires support to reach their goal of $100,000. The fatal collision occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Monday. Investigators report that the Cadillac and the taxi were traveling eastbound on 12th Avenue, while the Uber vehicle was heading north on Main Street. The driver of the Cadillac, a 17-year-old teenager, along with three other youths from Abbotsford, were injured and taken to the hospital. The Vancouver Police consider this incident a criminal act and have arrested the Cadillac driver. However, no charges are anticipated until the investigation is complete, which could take weeks or even months. Speed appears to be a determining factor in the collision, although there are no suspicions of impairment. The police are appealing to the public for assistance in providing any dash cam footage or security recordings that may aid in the investigation. Originally posted at Liga Legal®
