Tragedy in Vallejo:
VALLEJO, Calif. — A woman was found dead inside a crashed Honda Accord in Vallejo early Friday after shots were fired. The incident occurred near Tennessee Street and Mare Island Way around 12:30 a.m.
Vallejo Police Sergeant Rashad Hollis stated that it is not yet clear if the woman died from gunshot wounds, injuries from the crash, or a combination of both. However, it was confirmed that the victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound. The collision was severe enough that emergency crews had to extricate her from the vehicle. She was the driver and the only person in the car, but her identity has not been released.
The circumstances and motive behind the tragic incident are still under investigation. Local attorney Melissa Nold expressed concern, noting that it is unusual for women to be victims of random gun violence, which raises alarm in the community.
This case follows the death of Sharmell Mitchell in July, who died in a three-car crash while fleeing gunfire after a minor fender-bender. A suspect was arrested in connection with Mitchell’s death, but no arrests have been made in the latest case.
Vallejo Mayor Robert McConnell condemned the violence, calling it tragic and stating that it must stop. He emphasized the need to teach anger management as a way to prevent such incidents from occurring.
