Tragedy in Sorrento Valley:

One of the victims of a head-on crash in Sorrento Valley last week has died, her family said. Corazon Lange, 90, passed away on Tuesday after undergoing multiple surgeries. She had suffered fractures in her neck and spine, as well as internal bleeding, following the collision. The crash occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on August 2 in the 6000 block of Carroll Road, while Lange was traveling in an SUV that was part of a funeral procession. San Diego police reported that the driver of a white sedan was speeding, lost control, drifted into oncoming traffic, and collided with the SUV carrying Lange, her two daughters, and their husbands. All five occupants of the SUV and the sedan driver had to be extricated and were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. Lange’s family said she died surrounded by her loved ones. Shirley Weinmann, who was traveling in the procession behind Lange’s SUV, described the accident as surreal. “I saw a white car coming around the corner and it was going very fast. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, that car is not going to stop,’” Weinmann recalled. Weinmann described Lange as “the life of the party” and “a little fireball” who loved to dance and always made her family laugh. Jonathan Gomez, Lange’s grandson-in-law, stated that the family is not feeling anger but is focusing on supporting each other. Police suspect drugs may have been a factor in the crash and are awaiting blood test results. The sedan driver was hospitalized, and as of Friday, no charges had been filed. The investigation, now a manslaughter investigation, is ongoing. The family has set up an online fundraiser to help with funeral and medical expenses.
