Tragedy in San Diego

In a tragic incident in San Diego, a man died after driving his car into San Diego Bay following his involvement in an assault at a hotel in La Jolla. The incident began around midnight on Monday when San Diego police received an alert about a possible assault at the Shoal Hotel, located in the 6700 block of La Jolla Boulevard. Aaron Tran, 23, was the hotel receptionist who had checked two women into their room. After finishing his shift, Tran returned to the hotel under the pretense of a water leak in the adjoining room. He entered the women’s room and, in a chilling turn of events, handed his phone to one of them, showing her a threatening message that ordered her not to scream and to keep her hands behind her back. At that moment, Tran was holding a knife. The terrified woman found herself in a struggle with Tran, resulting in a wound near her collarbone. Hearing the injured woman’s scream, the other woman woke up, and both managed to escape from the room and headed to the hotel parking lot to call the police. The victim was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where it was reported that she is recovering satisfactorily from her injuries. Meanwhile, the police did not find Tran at the hotel after receiving the assault report. However, half an hour later, the San Diego Harbor Police spotted a vehicle driving in the wrong direction near Harbor Drive and Market Street. The car, matching the description of Tran’s vehicle, was lost from sight before officers could stop it. Later, it was discovered that the vehicle had fallen from the Marina Pier, an area located north of the USS Midway Museum. The car, a white Honda Accord, sank into the bay at approximately 12:35 a.m. Harbor police divers recovered Tran’s body, which showed self-inflicted wounds. The car was retrieved from a depth of 40 feet around 6 a.m. The Marina Pier, which serves as a parking lot for the USS Midway Museum, was cleared by investigators before the museum opened at 10 a.m. This tragic event has shocked the local community and sparked an intense investigation into the circumstances of the assault and Tran’s subsequent death.
