According to reports, a 65-year-old father suffered a serious bicycle accident last week, and his family has reached out to the community for help. Jorge Pareta Sr., a resident of Reseda, was on his way to work at Trader Joe's on Thursday when he was injured in Woodland Hills, as reported by NBC 4. According to a GoFundMe campaign initiated by his family, a car made a sudden right turn, causing Pareta to fly over the vehicle and land headfirst on the pavement. His heart stopped beating for 25 minutes, according to the GoFundMe page, but he was resuscitated and quickly taken to the hospital. The accident left Pareta unresponsive, paralyzed from the neck down, and in critical condition with a neck fracture, broken nose, and brain swelling, according to the GoFundMe. Pareta, a spinning instructor who loved cycling, used to participate in annual 50-mile rides in Mexico, as reported by KTLA. "Value your parents," said his daughter, Camila Pareta, to the news outlet, describing her father as a funny, loving person who could make anyone smile. "Whatever problems you have with them, no matter what. Let it go and appreciate their presence, hug them, tell them you love them. Life is unpredictable. You don't know what will happen tomorrow. Nothing is guaranteed." As of Tuesday night, the GoFundMe campaign to cover Pareta's medical expenses had raised over $43,000 out of its $50,000 goal. Originally posted at Liga Legal®
